Take the Perfect Photo

How to Take the Perfect Photo of Your Home for a Custom Watercolor Painting

A custom watercolor painting of your home is a wonderful way to capture the heart of where you live or a thoughtful gift to surprise a loved one. To make sure the painting reflects every beautiful detail of the house, it’s important to provide a high-quality photo. Don’t worry—it’s easier than you might think! Below are simple tips to help you take the best photo to submit for your custom artwork.

1. Make Sure the Photo is Clear and High-Quality

The most important step is ensuring the photo is clear, in focus, and taken with high resolution. A blurry or pixelated image can make it difficult to capture the fine details of your home. Use a smartphone or camera that can take high-quality images, and make sure your hand is steady or use a tripod if needed. A high-resolution, sharp photo ensures I can capture every unique feature of your house in the painting.

2. Choose The Right Angle

Take a photo from the best angle to highlight the front of the house. Make sure the house is not obscured by trees, cars, or other objects when you take the photo. A clear, unobstructed view allows me to see the entire structure and all its unique characteristics.

3. Submit Additional Photos for Details

If certain elements are hidden—like beautiful shutters, detailed stucco, or a distinctive front door—feel free to submit additional photos of those specific areas so I can incorporate them into the painting. These little details can make your painting even more special and personalized!

Due to the obstructed view, an additional image was suggested to highlight important architectural detail.

4. Choose the Right Lighting

Good lighting is essential. The house should be well-lit so that all the details are visible. Natural light works best—try taking the picture during the morning or late afternoon when the sun is softer, avoiding harsh shadows or overly bright spots. A balanced, well-lit photo will allow me to accurately depict your home.

5. What If You Don’t Have a Photo?

If you’re planning to surprise someone with a painting and don’t have a good photo of their home, don’t worry! Here are two simple options:

  • Option 1: Google Maps – You can look up the house on Google Maps and possibly find a street view photo. If you find a suitable image, send it over to me, and I’ll review whether it works for the painting.
  • Option 2: Gift Certificate – If finding a photo isn’t an option, consider giving a gift certificate from The Art Treat. This allows the recipient to choose their favorite image for the painting, ensuring a perfect result.

By following these simple tips, you’ll ensure that the painting of your home comes out beautifully, capturing all of the features that make it unique. If you have any questions or concerns about your photos, feel free to reach out! I’m happy to help review them and offer guidance.
